Heritage Walk Project
About the Heritage Walk Project
The Heritage Walk Project ‘Promenade Design Unveiling’ event is happening Sunday, June 1st, 2:00 4:00 pm at The Olde Foundry, 104 Front Street Pictou. All are welcome to drop in, learn more about the project, meet our story tellers and special guests, enjoy music from the Forget Me Nots and be a part of this amazing project which is creating a monument in celebration of our community collaboration and pride of place.
Remembering our history, sharing our stories and creating a public art space is the heart of the Heritage Walk Project. Ambassadors of art and culture, promoters of inclusiveness and education as well as cultivators of the creative economy, the Pictou Arts Society is bringing to our community the Heritage Walk Project.
Over the past month the town of Pictou has been alive with stories. Beth Henderson, Jerry Chaisson, Donna Bullerwell, John Sypder MacDonald and St.Clair Prest have led residences of Strathcona Apartments, Shiretown Nursing Home and Maritime Odd Fellows, students from Pictou Academy and members of Women’s Institute and New Horizons for Seniors Club on a journey through time, sharing stories of what brought families to Pictou, life during the boom years, the impact of war on the community and how thingshave changed over the years.
Imagery from these stories and stones from buildings long since demolished will be used to create a promenade of benches, mosaic patio stones and gardens. The promenade will be adjacent to the ball field on Front Street, Pictou. This community space is used for sporting events, concerts and entertainment.
The Olde Foundry will be active during the summer with people of all ages participating in the creation of the mosaics, recycle center/litter bin paintings, bench and stone wall construction and of course gardening. All working towards the big reveal scheduled for the Hector Festival in mid September.
Pictou Arts Society recognizes the support of the Government of Canada New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) to implement the Heritage Walk Project. We are pleased to work in partnership with The Olde Foundry, Town of Pictou, Evening Sail Bed & Breakfast and Pictou Garden Club. Much appreciation to our sponsors Proudfoots Home Hardware, Scotiabank,
Maritime Odd Fellows Home, Pictou Antigonish Regional Library, MacLeans Flooring, Creative
Pictou County and the Pictou County Health Authority.
Hi! We are very fortunate that there are people in Pictou who are interested in trying to promote the town and what is happening. Michelle LeBlanc who operates the Evening Sail B & B has volunteered to organize a Facebook page for the happenings in Pictou and keep it updated. This is her request to me and I would like if you would forward it to your friends also. All the help our town can get would be so very much appreciated..........thanks so much!...........Beth
Visit the Visit Pictou Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/visitpictou?ref=hl.
For every 1000 Likes we get on the page, we'll donate $100.00 to the Ship Hector. It's a great way to keep up to date on what's happening in town and help out a great cause at the same time! For those who are into Facebook themselves, there is any easy option to "invite" their own friends to Like the page as well...
