We are Pictou Renaissance, a group of life-long residents and those lucky or wise enough to have found Pictou and made it home.
We know that Pictou is a hidden gem with its protected harbour, historic architecture, endless beaches, and friendly people. Almost no matter what your pleasure, Pictou can offer it.
The wildlife is spectacular. You may catch sight of dolphins or seals in the harbor, as eagles soar overhead. Deer and fox are frequently seen as you travel the side-roads.
History abounds. Sitting in the harbour is a majestic authentic replica of the tall ship “Hector” that brought the first Scottish settlers to Canada in 1773 and landed in Pictou. There are two museums, an interpretive centre, historic Scottish stone architecture and streets lined with wooden Victorian palaces of the late 1800’s.
Socially, there are all kinds of groups, clubs and organizations to become involved with, and many friends if you just want to chat over a cup of tea. Or perhaps you’d like to meet new friends at the deCoste Entertainment Centre, which is one of the finest venues for the performing arts in Eastern Canada and features numerous shows and events throughout the year.
Walk our waterfront. Watch the comings and goings of the marinas or the activity of a working harbour. Reflect on life as it used to be—as it should be—where strangers say hello and where you have no concerns for your safety. A member of Pictou Renaissance would be more than happy to give you a tour of our fair town.
